Identified as second priority project in the 2000 diagnostic study of the Chapman Lakes watershed and lake water quality, Arrowhead Drain improvements cost about $68,000. The Indiana State Soil Conservation Board awarded a $50,800 grant toward the design/build project. Chapman Lakes Foundation, Inc., as sponsor, provided it's 25-percent cost share from contributions. J. F. New and Associates, Walkerton, is contractor.

Photo (left) is adjacent Chapman Lake Drive where worker are fastening erosion blanket before stone is placed. Photo (right) looking toward Chapman Lake Drive near where the channel was altered to save two trees. Note the erosion blanket being prepared at left in the photo. Project differs from Crooked Creek in that most of the construction involves heavy equipment to install grade controls and no crib walls. Excess storm water should back up into small flood plains where sediment and eroded pollution that now spills into Little Chapman Lake should settle out. Unchecked pollution from In the past, Arrowhead drainage has included high levels of bacteria during major storm events. Entire project site is in woods west of CLCA Clubhouse and east of Chapman Lake Drive.

Photo (center) is at the head of the drain near the CLCA clubhouse. Right photo is end of project at Chapman Lake Drive (see photos above with work in progress). No work will be done on the west side of Chapman Lake Drive.
